报告摘要:
This talk is about a linear algebraic object called a tridiagonal pair. The concept originated in Algebraic Graph Theory, on the subject of Q-polynomial distance-regular graphs. We will give a broad introduction to tridiagonal pairs, working with a special case (called totally bipartite) in order to simplify the discussion. We will cover the following topics:
—Tridiagonal pair background
—TB tridiagonal pairs and systems
—The standard basis and matrix representations
—The classification of TB tridiagonal systems
—The Askey-Wilson relations
—Some automorphisms and antiautomorphisms
—The Z3-symmetric Askey-Wilson relations
—An action of the modular group PSL2(Z)
This talk is meant for a general mathematical audience. This is joint work with Kazumasa Nomura.

报告人简介:
Paul Terwilliger, an eminent mathematician, was born in 1955 in Michigan, USA. He has been a professor of University of Wisconsin at Madison since 1994. In the research area of algebraic combinatorics, he has published more than 100 papers with total citationsmore than 2200. He is the founder of the theory of Terwilliger algebras, which was started in his monumental papers `The subconstituent algebra of an association scheme I, II, III'. Since then, he is pushing back the frontiers, developing deep new ideas and finding many applications not only in combinatorics, but also in other areas of mathematics such as statistical mechanics.
